Science and Studies
The Institute carries out state-supported research according to the following major research trends approved by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania’s Resolution No 1800, 23 December 2009:
research into the status of environmental quality, patterns and mechanisms of structure, functioning, sensitivity, vulnerability, genetic diversity, adaptations, microevolution of natural ecosystems, habitats, species, communities under global change and anthropogenic impact, development of theoretical fundamentals and prediction.
Along with fundamental research, the Institute carried out research under programmes of the NATO, EU, US State Department, HELCOM, GEF, ICES and Taiwan National Science Council, and those sponsored by international scientific foundations. The Institute also conducted research commissioned by ministries, municipalities, different institutions and organisations, and provided expert opinion.
The Institute of Ecology together with Vilnius University have been granted the right to confer the scientific degree of doctor in biomedical sciences (B 000) in the fields of ecology, environmental research (03 B) and zoology (05 B).
